End-of-Year Financial To-Dos & Get Out and Vote!

Happy Election Day to all of our website visitors! Election Day reminds us that the end of the year is creeping closer and closer. Before you know it, you'll be eating Turkey, sharing gifts around the tree (if you celebrate Christmas), and spending time with friends and family.

The first few weeks before Thanksgiving approaches are great weeks to get your finances in order before the end of the year. We grabbed some tips on Novemeber financial to-dos from one of the financial planning blogs we often follow for how-tos, tips, and advice, LearnVest.

End-of-year financial & money to-dos:

1. Check your credit score: Recent changes in FICO's scoring system in August could put you in a better position when it comes to debts that went to collections that you paid off, or medical debts affecting your credit score.

2. Budget for the holiday season: Make sure you create and stay within a budget this holiday season. Gift giving can often get a little out of control. See if there are any gifts that can be DIY, or perhaps decide you are going to set a monetary limit for each family member's gift.

3. Plan any charitable donations: Now is the time to make any charitable contributions if you have budgeted to do so in 2014.

4. Look into financial aid options: FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) applications can begin to be submitted on January 1st.

5. Discuss money with family: The holidays (while maybe not at Thanksgiving dinner) are a good time to discuss the basic principles of budgeting or managing money. Providing positive advice for younger family members can help pave the way for them to make smarter money moves as they grow financially.

If you have any questions or concerns when it comes to tax advice, tax prep, or bookkeeping as the year nears its end, please give us a call at Bloch, Rothman & Associates, LTD at (303) 321-7060 and get out and vote!
