Tax season is off to a strong start with the IRS, with no known issues or major problems so far!  For many taxpayers who have already filed their return, waiting on a refund can be frustrating. Here’s the good news:  at this time the IRS is issuing 9 out of 10 refunds to taxpayers in less than 3 weeks (21 days) after the IRS receives the return.  Of course some refunds will take longer to process, if there are any questions regarding fraud, identity theft or other errors in the return.  Generally speaking, the earlier a taxpayer submits their return, the more quickly a return will be processed. As tax season continues and the closer we get to the April 15 filing deadline, the busier the IRS gets and the longer it can take to process returns and issue tax refunds.

Due to the three-day weekend, the upcoming President’s Day weekend typically marks one of the busiest weeks of the tax filing season for the IRS phone lines.
