Why Should I File Electronically?

By Richard M. Rothman, E.A.

What is Electronic Filing?

After a tax preparer completes the preparation of your tax return, the return information is filed directly with the IRS via computer modem. You receive a hard copy of your return for your records in the traditional format. A form (8453) is sent by us to the IRS with your signature and any W-2's, 1099's, or other necessary attachments. The IRS will acknowledge receipt of your return so that you know it has been filed on time. Occasionally, the IRS will not accept the return and will inform us of the problem (often a social security number mismatch). We can then adjust the return and file it again.
